Istra Toner

Name: Istra Toner

Location: West Kirby

MERSEYSIDE based artist Istra Toner is a glass artist and a painter. Istra was born in Montenegro and has lived in the UK for most of her life, the last 15 years in West Kirby

She graduated in art and design from Glyndwr University in Wales after a long career as a lecturer in psychology at Liverpool Hope University. She is an International exhibitor, and involved in organising and running community based projects in the UK and Croatia, where she also works from her studio (www.studiovaleria.blog.hr).

Istra regularly contributes to regional art events, and is recognised for her creative diversity and use of all art forms in exploring the fragility of human existence and pressures on the ecosystem. She looks for beauty in discarded and found objects, and reclaimed materials, giving them soul and significance through the persistence of memory and its role in social interaction and dynamic dialogue between the animate and inanimate. Her work, formed on immediacy, is always spontaneous, humorous and surprising.

In her work shown here she explores images and memories of love that fade and are held in a few objects and images that are fragile jet powerful and real in the experience.
