AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a body was found washed up on a Merseyside beach.
A member of the public called police after discovering the body at West Kirby yesterday.
Part the beach near Stanley Road slipway was cordoned off by officers while the body was recovered.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “Just after 10.30am, a report was received from a member of the public that they had found a body on the beach.
“It is believed the body was brought onto the beach by the tide and that the person has been dead for sometime.
“Police are currently treating the death as unexplained and an investigation is underway to establish the identity of the body and how it came to be on the beach.”
