Bridge crash shuts down New Ferry bypass

A MAJOR Wirral road was shut after a lorry carrying a crane drove into a bridge.

The A41 New Ferry bypass was closed both ways on Monday after the bridge at New Ferry Road was struck at around 4.30pm.

There was slow moving traffic and tailbacks between Bebington and Birkenhead and police closed the bridge above at New Ferry Road.

No one was injured and structural engineers were brought in to assess the damage to the bridge.

The bypass and the bridge were fully reopened to traffic by 7pm.
