Wirral Arts: International artist finds inspiration in our landscapes

A WIRRAL artist who has displayed internationally has based his latest work on the peninsula.

With an artistic career spanning 20 years it is hardly surprising Ian Fennelly has looked on his own doorstep for inspiration.

As his latest work features watercolours and oil paintings of the Wirral coastline, taking in Parkgate, Sally’s Cottage and Hilbre Island.

His latest exhibition, The Coastal Show, is at Dee Fine Arts in Heswall until November 27.

Ian, from Hoylake, said: “There is a selection of watercolours in my signature style on display alongside new my collection of oil paintings.

“These latest works have moved on from the more detailed oil paintings that I used to produce to a looser style where I apply bold blocks of colour to the canvas.”

Ian graduated with a first class honours degree in 1986. He now works independently as a professional artist and trains primary school teachers in sculpture.

Ian’s style has changed over the years, and his watercolour paintings are recognised by his use of vibrant colour along with his dynamic drawing technique which produce vivid images.

His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

Gallery owner Sue Webster added: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to exhibit a collection of Ian’s stunning paintings.”
