MY NAME is Brian Griffiths and I am the Inspector responsible for the Ward areas of Upton and Woodchurch, Prenton and Greasby.
This time of year over Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night is traditionally the busiest time of year for both the police and our colleagues in Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service as, unfortunately the behaviour of a minority of people can sometimes spoil the fun for everyone else. Your Neighbourhood Team will continue to work with communities to tackle anti-social behaviour. You will also see more officers on patrol during this busy period.
With the darker evenings road safety also comes to the fore. Over recent years the number of people killed or seriously injured in Wirral has reduced, but road safety is the responsibility of all road users.
Two wheel vehicles will always come off worst in a collision and I would urge users to ensure that they give themselves the best chance of being seen by using suitable high visibility clothing and ensuring that lights are working.
Drivers should ensure that windscreens are clean and smear free and that washers and wipers are working correctly.
If we get ice and snow please ensure that windscreens are fully cleared and demisted before setting off, but don’t fall into the trap that some fall into each year by leaving the car running unoccupied outside their homes while it heats up. Each year thieves take vehicles and the owners will find that as the keys are left with the vehicle in the vast majority of cases there is no insurance cover for theft. Please don’t be a statistic this year.
If you have information regarding crime in your area don’t forget Crimestoppers is free and anonymous. You can use this method by calling 0800 555 111 or direct using the new police non-emergency contact number – 101.
