A BIRKENHEAD man appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a stabbing.
Jason Cullen, 40, of Carlton Road, was arrested after officers were called to Bentinck Street, Birkenhead, on Sunday to a report a man had been stabbed.
When they arrived at around 8.15am they found the 25-year-old victim in the back garden with a number of stab wounds.
He was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
He was still critically ill in hospital yesterday after suffering multiple knife wounds.
Police then conducted a search of the area, cordoning the scene off for examination and house-to-house inquiries were carried out.
Cullen – believed to be the victim’s uncle – was charged with attempted murder and possession of an amphetamine.
Det Chief Insp Dave McCaughrean, of Merseyside Police, said: “A man was left in a very serious condition and we urge anyone who may have seen or heard what happened to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.
“There would have been people around in the area in cars and on foot at the time of the assault.
“I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and that may have any information, no matter how small they think it is, to contact us as it may assist our investigation.”
Cullen appeared at Wirral magistrates court. The case was adjourned for him to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on July 31.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2264 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
