A LIPA graduate and a rocker are set to become superstars – after thrilling Andrew Lloyd Webber in his search for a new Jesus.
David Hunter, from Warrington, and Rory Taylor (pictured above), from Heswall, made it to the finals of the composer’s ITV1 talent search Superstar.
Lord Lloyd-Webber chose his top 10 live show finalists at the end of Saturday’s programme.
Mentor Melanie C – who will play Mary Magdalene in the touring show – and judge Jason Donovan also believed they should make the final stages.
Superstar went into the studio last night with the finalists performing on stage for the first time for judges including Dawn French.
David (pictured left), who trained at LIPA, said: “It had been one of the craziest and most intense times of my life, and to finish it off with such amazing news made it one of the best weeks ever.
“Knowing that Andrew Lloyd Webber had seen something special in my performances meant the world to me and now is my chance to prove him right.”
The 27-year-old supported McFly with his band Reemer before a stint in the West End’s One Man, Two Guvnors.
He said: “Although I have always been a singer, I trained as an actor and I hope people will see that on the show.
“I’ll be trying to tell a story through every song, but having said that I still know how to rock out and Šblow the roof off when the time is right.
“I had to step up and fight for my place in the finals and that makes it all the more satisfying to be here.”
Rory, 24, also has experience of being lead singer in 54321, a resident band at Liverpool’s Cavern Club.
He said: “I was totally overwhelmed, very proud of myself and quite emotional. I did not really think I would make it that far at all.
“I am looking forward to giving all I have to every performance. Singing makes me feel so amazing. It’s totally addictive.
“Winning Superstar and playing the role of Jesus is a lifelong dream for me. I’ve had the chance to meet some of my idols, work with an amazing music team and make some great friends.
“I am learning more than I ever imagined I would and having the time of my life.”
