TEN stores run by collapsed retailer Game will close across the Mersey region this week.
Shops in Aintree, Birkenhead, Bootle, Ellesmere Port, Runcorn, Skelmersdale, Speke, Warrington and two in Liverpool city centre will all shut after dire trading forced the stricken video games store chain to go into administration.
Administrators at PwC said 277 stores in the UK and Ireland will shut, triggering 2,104 job losses.
PwC hope for a quick sell-off of the remaining 333 stores, which employ 2,814 staff.
Those shops will continue to trade while PwC attempts to find a buyer for the business.
The retailer faces a £12m wage bill this weekend, although PwC is expected to honour any wages owed. It also owes £71m in VAT, rent and supplier charges.
Mike Jervis, joint administrator and partner at PwC, said: “The recent job losses are regrettable but will place the company in a stronger position while we explore opportunities to conclude a sale.
“My team and I will be doing all we can to help the affected employees at this difficult time.”
