Fancy dress chick run to be held in Birkenhead Park

WIRRAL is set to host its first chicken fancy dress fun run to raise money for charity.

People of all ages are being invited to take part in the 5k Chick Run for Clatterbridge Cancer Research.

And the News is supporting the Birkenhead Park event on April 22 by becoming its official media partner.

The Chick Run is a non-competitive event, so you can choose to sprint, run, jog, walk, stroll, or even take your dog along. All that matters is people taking part are willing to wear one of the fancy dress chick costumes provided.

Last year’s run in Croxteth Park attracted around 500 runners and walkers, and organisers are hoping for an even bigger turnout in Birkenhead.

Early registrations are looking positive and the charity is delighted the Wirral News will partner the event.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research director Catherine Sandow said: “Times are hard for charities, just as they are for business, but our fundraising targets don’t get any lighter.

“This partnership means a huge amount to us. It shows a commitment to help, not only the health of the local community, but the fight to combat cancer on a much larger scale. We are incredibly grateful and look forward to working with Wirral News.”

Every year the charity, which funds world-class research into cancers and improved targeted treatments, faces the task of raising more than £2m.

Its team of scientists, based in Liverpool, work specifically on the cancers that are particularly prevalent in Merseyside and Cheshire, which still has one of the UK’s worst cancer survival rates.

To find out more or to register visit www.chickrun.org or call 0151 343 4300. All runners will be given a chick costume when they register. Children aged five and under go free, but need to provide a fancy dress costume.
