A METEOR spotted across Merseyside at the weekend provoked a frenzy of excitement.
Eyewitnesses around the UK reported seeing a large fireball travelling from Scotland to southern England at around 9.40pm on Saturday.
Jenny Harnock, of Walton, said: “It was great. But we didn’t know what it was.”
Her partner, George Simonds, said: “It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in the sky. It was like a fireball shooting across the dark sky. We knew it wasn't a plane on fire and could only be something from space.”
Simon Crabtree, of Bebington, said: “I was at Arrowe Park and, as I was walking towards the car park, three patients were outside looking at the sky and talking about a UFO. I looked up and there was an orange ball with a tail shooting across the sky. I watched it for about 15 seconds and it disappeared.”
