Birkenhead writer to team up with British Film Institute director

A BIRKENHEAD writer is close to realising a childhood dream after winning a national competition to be mentored by one of the biggest names in the British film industry.

Cath Bore, 43, whose debut novel The Missing Link is close to completion, will work with Amanda Nevill, the director of the British Film Institute as she looks to continue her recent success by breaking into the film and television industry.

“Being based in the north, there is a slight disadvantage when attempting to break into film and television as a lot of the major companies are based in London,” Cath said.

“I love the Wirral and have no plans to move, so I am hoping Amanda's wealth of knowledge will help put me in contact with the necessary people in the south.”

Becoming a successful writer has been a lifelong goal for Cath but like many other budding writers, she had to balance her passion with a full-time job for a number of years.

She added: “When I was a teenager I wrote bad poetry and it kicked off a bit of an obsession. I worked in the civil service, but it was only to pay the bills. Being a writer is all I have ever wanted.”

Cath's career has seen her produce flash fiction stories, stage plays, radio dramas, magazine blogs and reviews.

In the past 18 months, she has also made her first television appearances on the Wright Stuff and the Vanessa Show on Channel Five.

But with the help of her new mentor Cath hopes her future influence on our television screens will come behind the scenes.

She said: “I've always been a fan of television dramas and comedies, so I would love to try my hand at writing one. I see that as an ideal way of progressing my career.”
