MERSEYSIDE-born Daniel Craig was revealed to the public for the first time in the new James Bond film, Skyfall.
Skyfall, the 23rd film in the franchise, will place the relationship between 007 and his boss M, played by Dame Judi Dench, under strain.
The first official synopsis explained: “In Skyfall, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.
“As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
Producers released this still of Bond lurking in the shadows in a scene set in Shanghai.
The agent appears to be in pursuit of a target as he is picked out from the darkness by the glow of a neon sign.
The often impeccably groomed star is seen with a layer of stubble in the film, being directed by Sam Mendes.
Craig, from Hoylake, is returning for a third time as Bond following the success of Casino Royale and A Quantum Of Solace.
He said: “I am lucky enough to be given the chance to do a third Bond and it is my intention to make the best Bond movie – Bond with a capital B.”
The film also sees Dench return as M, while Javier Bardem is lined up to play the villain. Also in the cast are Naomie Harris, Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes.
The production crew has been spotted at various locations around London since filming began in the capital last year.
Skyfall is due to open in the UK on October 26.
