THE Merseyside family of a man mutilated and murdered by serial killer have spoken of their relief after judges ruled he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Edward Carthy’s sister and step-mother who live in Birkenhead insisted Peter Moore should never have been allowed to take his appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
His bid for freedom, with two other British killers – Jeremy Bamber and Douglas Vinter - claimed their life-without-review sentences were “inhuman” and “degrading”.
But the European Court ruled the whole-life sentences were not “grossly disproportionate”.
Mr Carthy was one of four men murdered in 1995 by Moore, from North Wales.
Ex-cinema owner Moore, now 65, was dubbed the most dangerous man ever to set foot in Wales at his trial.
His sister Lynne said the murder had a devastating effect on her family – the health of her dad, also Edward, declined rapidly before he died of emphysema 11 years ago.
She said: “I haven’t come to terms with it. I can’t get rid of this heartache.”
And Beatrice Carthy, 69, who married Lynne’s father after his wife died, added: “Moore was wicked and evil – they should throw away the key.”
