Man in court charged with assaulting Wallasey pub landlord on New Year’s Day
A MAN has appeared in court after a Wirral pub landlord was assaulted in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Keith Taylor, 33, of Poulton Road, Wallasey, made his first appearance at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with assault.
Police were called to the Rose and Crown pub in Poulton Road, Wallasey, at 8.15am on Sunday after a cleaner found the 44-year-old landlord injured in the bar area.
Police believe he had lain undiscovered for several hours after being assaulted following New Year celebrations.
He was last seen by a member of staff at 2.30am, after the pub had closed.
He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital suffering what police described as a “significant head injury” but was discharged on Monday.
Staff at the pub said he was resting and needed to sleep but they expected him to make a full recovery from his injuries.
Police carried out house-to-house inquiries after the incident and are examining CCTV footage.
