A POSTMASTER was attacked by a robber who held up his post office at gunpoint.
A man brandishing a gun burst into Martins newsagent and post office in Upton Road, Upton, just before 10.40am last Thursday.
He threatened staff and customers and assaulted the manager of the shop, leaving him with a head injury.
The offender fled with a large amount of cash and escaped on the back of a motorbike or scrambler bike in the direction of Birkenhead.
At 12.30pm, three youths involved in a motorbike crash in Bidston Road, Bidston, were arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of robbery and the theft of a motorbike. They were later bailed pending further inquiries until the new year.
Detective Inspector Mark Watson, of Merseyside police, said: “Incidents of this nature are rare in this area and those responsible need to be brought to justice.
“This must have been a very frightening ordeal.”
