FAMOUS for his outspoken comments, the Duke of Edinburgh did not disappoint during his visit.
While being introduced to dignitaries in the Floral Pavilion’s Panoramic Lounge, the Duke was seen to point to Fort Perch Rock and asked if it was “original” or some kind of reproduction.
Kevin Adderley, interim director of corporate services for Wirral Council, explained the Fort was actually built at the end of the Napoleonic wars to defend Liverpool Bay and in particular to keep the French out.
To which His Royal Highness Prince Philip replied: “Rightly so!”
