Strikes at a glance: How industrial action will affect Wirral schools and council services

Schools: The majority of infant, primary and secondaries will be closed.

Schools fully or partially open are Brackenwood Infants, Oxton St Saviour’s, Dawpool Primary, Greenleas Primary, Grove Street Primary, Upton Hall (Years 7, 8 and 9 only) Calday Grammar and Wirral Girls Grammar (both sixth form only) and West Kirby Grammar (Year 12 only).

All Wirral special schools are expected to close – but Elleray Park had not confirmed arrangements as the News went to press.

Many closed schools may still be open to non-striking staff.

Children’s centres/nurseries: All Wirral children’s centres will be closed, including their associated nurseries, except privately-run nurseries.

Day centres All day centres run by Wirral’s adult social services department will be closed.

Cultural services All Wirral libraries, leisure centres, the Floral Pavilion Theatre, Pacific Road Arts Centre, Williamson Art Gallery and Birkenhead Priory will close.

Visitor centres at Wirral Country Park and Birkenhead Park will be closed and any ranger-led events cancelled.

Cemeteries Wirral Council said no funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday.

Customer services All Wirral one-stop shops will be closed. The customer service call centre will also be closed and callers ringing any of the call centre numbers will receive an automated message offering advice and directions to other contact numbers where appropriate.

Bin collections Will take place as scheduled.

Council buildings No public access to council buildings such as Cheshire Lines for viewing planning applications and access to archives or Birkenhead Town Hall for registrar services. Wirral Council said no weddings were scheduled for Wednesday.

Staffing Wirral Council said a “number of staff” have been granted exemptions from strike action in order to provide a response emergency response and maintain services considered critical for public safety, but their work will be strictly prioritised.
