Gas supplies restored after a week

ALMOST all homes and businesses in Moreton and Leasowe left without gas have now had their supplies restored.

National Grid said just 15 properties were left to be reconnected and they were waiting to get access to them.

A spokeswoman said all homes had been reconnected by the weekend except those they could not get into, and they had repeatedly visited them.

She also thanked local residents for being “incredibly patient”.

More than 2,000 properties were affected by loss of gas after a water main burst and cut off supplies.

National Grid had said once supplies are restored they will be compensating households that have been without gas for more than 24 hours with £30 for every full 24 hours dis connected and businesses £50 per 24 hours.

The spokeswoman said they aim to make payments as quickly as possible once all customers are back on gas.

Once people’s gas supplies have been restored, paying compensation can take up to 28 days.
