Staff at Upton newsagents threatened with a crowbar during robbery

POLICE are appealing for information after staff at a newsagents in Upton were threatened during an armed robbery.

A man with a crowbar entered the Martin McColls shop on Upton Road at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, October 19.

He approached the counter, threatened staff and demanded money before leaving the store with an amount of cash.

Although unhurt, staff were left very shaken following the incident.

The offender is described as being white, in his late teens and of a slim build.

He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hooded top underneath, grey jogging bottoms, black training shoes, black gloves and he was carrying a blue crowbar. His face was covered.

A 17-year-old from the Prenton area was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of armed robbery. He has been spoken to by officers and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
