A FAMILY of five were led to safety after a fire at their home in Prenton, Wirral.
Firefighters were called at 7.20pm to the fire at a two-story terraced house on Netherfield Close.
A 28-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man, two boys, aged seven and eight along with a three-year-old girl were taken from their home to safety, all uninjured.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rescued a pet cat, and found the body of another.
The blaze began in the ground floor hall, which was severely damaged by fire.
The stairwell was also severely damaged by fire along with a quantity of household goods stored under the stairs.
The other three rooms on the ground floor were also damaged by fire, smoke and heat and there was smoke damage to two adjacent properties.
