Wirral Arts : Art lovers spoilt for choice in August

WIRRAL art lovers are spoilt for choice throughout August, as diverse exhibitions open in Heswall, Bebington and West Kirby.

Heswall Artists’ Association (HAA) is celebrating its diamond jubilee this year, making the 2011 annual exhibition particularly resonant.

The association began life in 1951 when a group of local artists decided to hold an exhibition of arts and crafts during the Festival of Britain.

Now, in its 60th year HAA maintains a membership list of more than 100 artists, spread across the south and west of the peninsula and encourages work in a wide range of mediums.

And another venerable Wirral institution is opening its Annual Print Exhibition on Friday.

Bebington Photographic Society will be showing the fruits of its members’ labours at Bebington Central Library over the next week.

And in West Kirby, Staacks gallery is bringing work by Upton artist, Chloe Holt back to its Banks Road space.

Staacks’ Kara King told Wirral Arts: “Chloe’s most recent works are emotionally charged compositions with a rhythm and beauty that bring together colour, shape and texture as a balanced fusion of a travel-fuelled imagination and an emotional outburst of creative representation.”

A trip to Nevada and the Grand Canyon has provided much of Chloe’s recent inspiration, and she’s developed an interest in the lives of native Americans and the European settlers that went on to populate the area.

Heswall Artists’ Association Diamond Jubilee Exhibition opens at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Telegraph Road, Heswall on Saturday August 6 until Saturday August 13. It is open every day from 10am to 6pm, except Saturday August 13, when it opens until 4pm, and Sunday August 7, when it is closed.

Bebington Photographic Society’s Annual Print Exhibition is held in the Exhibition Room at Bebington Central Library from Friday August 5 to Saturday August 13.

Chloe Holt Nourished by Silence runs at Staacks, 144 Banks Road, West Kirby throughout August from tomorrow.
