Awards galore for Birkenhead-based Woman’s support service

A BIRKENHEAD charity that supports women who have suffered domestic and sexual abuse has received a welcome cash boost.

Katrina O’Rourke, a fundraiser for Women’s Enterprising Breakthrough (WEB), said the organisation was “thrilled” to receive a £3,000 cash award, and recognition from Merseyside Police for its important work.

Predominantly run by volunteers, WEB is a community-based service that provides support for women with complex needs,

many have been victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and hate crimes.

WEB provides a safe haven and an opportunity to rebuild confidence and trust. Four years ago it received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services.

Merseyside Police Authority has praised it for its “hard work and dedication,”. The award is financed by the Police Property Act Fund.
