A HAVE-A-GO HERO has been rewarded for his bravery.
Derek Mozeley, 63, from Birkenhead, was honoured with a medal at the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) National Public Bravery Awards .
Mr Mozeley, of Prenton Hall Road, was rewarded for his courage after he helped police catch neighbour Phillip Lilliot who was pointing a handgun at people on the street.
The offshore test engineer, who lived next door to Lilliot for more than 30 years, bear-hugged his neighbour, allowing police to restrain and disarm him.
Lilliot was later jailed for 14 months for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
South Yorkshire chief constable Meredydd Hughes, honorary awards secretary, commended the recipients for their bravery at the ceremony in Harrogate.
He sad: “Merseyside is a better place for its residents like Derek and I would like to thank them for their bravery and courage when faced with the criminality of others.
"We are delighted to be honouring these individuals who are of all ages and come from all walks of life. Their actions are to be commended and we thank them for their selfless acts.”
The policing awards celebrated the brave and heroic acts of 89 members of the public.
