Thousands gather at Birkenhead School for Perfect Pitch concert

THOUSANDS gathered at Birkenhead School on Saturday night to enjoy a classical feast of music to mark its 150th anniversary.

Vasily Petrenko brought the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to play in the Perfect Pitch concert ... billed as one of Wirral’s biggest cultural events this year.

The evening featured a stunning performance by Liverpool mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge and a spectacular fireworks finale.

Organised to bring to a close a year of celebrations around the school’s 150th birthday the concert was enjoyed from seats on the cricket pitch, under gazebos and from a VIP marquee.

Headmaster John Clark said: "This has been a major undertaking for the school and we are honoured that Vasily Petrenko agreed to accept our invitation for the orchestra’s only outdoor performance this year. The stage was also shared by our own talented musicians for whom this was a chance in a lifetime to perform in front of 3000 people.

"We are absolutely delighted the evening was a success; it was important for the school, for those who worked to bring the production together, for the audience and of course for the four charities which the event is supporting."

Wirral News was media partner in the event.
