WIRRAL’S Sandsculpture competition returns to New Brighton this month and organisers want you to get involved.
The contest is usually only open to youngsters aged between 13 and 19, but such is its popularity that those aged under 13 can now get in on the action.
Teams made up of between five and ten participants join together and turn their creative attention to forming shapes and sculptures from the New Brighton sand.
The finished products can then be decorated with anything from the natural environment, whether shells, stones or driftwood.
And this year the theme is ‘film titles’.
So if you think you can transform the plain, old beach into something Martin Scorsese would be proud of, you should make sure you register at one of Wirral Youth Service’s Youth Hubs.
Depending on where you live, you can choose from South Wirral Youth Hub on Lyndale Avenue in Eastham, Birkenhead Youth Hub on Mendip Road, Wallasey Youth Hub on Mill Lane or West Wirral Youth Hub on the Concourse in West Kirby.
All those looking to take part must register ahead of the event, which takes place on the beach by Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton on Thursday, June 16.
And because creative work is tiring, a barbecue full of tasty burgers and hot dogs will be on offer, as well as other refreshments.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Gerry Ellis will select his favourite sculptures and certificates and trophies will be presented to the winners.
Those under the age of 13 looking to take part should get in touch through Wirral Council’s Play Service.
Get in contact with a playworker by calling the Youth and Play Service Office on 0151 637 6370.
South Wirral Youth Hub can be contacted on 0151 327 8063, Birkenhead Youth Hub is 0151 608 7165, Wallasey Youth Hub is 0151 639 8223 and West Wirral Youth Hub can be reached on 0151 625 8322
