A MAN appeared at crown court charged with murdering a charity worker.
Peter Caine, 27, died after being stabbed in the heart in Market Street, Birkenhead, in the early hours of May 12.
Barry Royle, 28, yesterday appeared at Liverpool crown court via video-link from Walton prison charged with his murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Royle, of Market Street, confirmed his name and that he understood proceedings. He did not enter a plea to the charges.
Anya Horwood, prosecuting, told the court Mr Caine suffered eight stab injuries – the fatal one a 15cm wound to his heart.
The Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe QC, set a plea and case management hearing for August 12 and a trial date for October 31. Royle was further remanded in custody.
