WORK on a major new feature at Wirral's U-boat tourist attraction is nearly finished.
A life-size replica of the Conning Tower of German U-boat U-534, at The U-Boat Story, in Seacombe’s Woodside Ferry Terminal, will be open in time for the Bank Holiday weekend of May 28.
Engineers created the replica so visitors could experience what it would be like to stand on the bridge of the historic vessel and, from inside, use a periscope to look across the River Mersey.
Neil Scales, chief executive of Merseytravel, which owns and operates Mersey Ferries, said: "Many visitors have asked to see inside the conning tower, but this was not possible.
"The replica will show visitors just what it was like inside the original, as well as giving them a fantastic view of Liverpool."
