Government minister visits Wirral veterans

CONSERVATIVE Party co-chairman Sayeeda Warsi met armed forces veterans in Wallasey.

The Minister without Portfolio was at Withens Lane Royal British Legion.

She was able to hear first-hand about a new welfare unit for Wirral residents who are serving, or have recently served, in the Armed Forces. The council has established a Merseyside’s first Veterans Office, to support returning forces personnel.

The Armed Forces Community Welfare Pathway Unit will act as a 'one-stop shop' for services personnel and their families, avoiding calls to multiple organisations and departments.

Council leader Jeff Green said: “The charity Combat Stress does a fantastic job in helping veterans to adjust to life back in the UK and it’s clear that much more needs to be done. The support Wirral Council is now giving to the issue will, I hope, go some way to helping veterans and their families in our borough.”
