The Wirral Song written by Annie McKenna

A WIRRAL woman has been inspired to create a song in honour of the peninsula – and says more people need to know about us.

Aptly titled ‘The Wirral Song’, Annie McKenna, or Annie Mac as she’s known in the business, thinks it’s about time Wirral had its own tune after realising how much appeal the area has.

After a trip to the Midlands, Annie wasn’t impressed with what the area had to offer in comparison to the scenery Wirral can boast, and thought she would help create an identity for Wirral folk in the shape of a song we can be proud of.

Annie said: “I think some people don’t appreciate what we’ve got on the Wirral.

“It’s got so many attractions and great areas like New Brighton, I think it’s just a brilliant place to live.”

“I just hope people like it, it’s light hearted and easy to listen to and the kids love singing it.”

The 50-year-old Rockferry songstress is somewhat prolific, penning 46 country-themed tracks and one recorded album titled ‘All My Own’.

Annie, who made the catchy tune using her trusty keyboard, drafted in her nieces and nephews to give some stand-out backing vocals. Amber, Katy, Martin, Owen and Shannon all helped Auntie Annie make the CD.

If you’re curious as to the melody, those who are fans of Country and Sea Shanty’s might be interested in giving their ears a treat.
