Fire service rescues injured goose from the River Mersey

AN injured goose was rescued from the River Mersey on Tuesday afternoon.

The goose was in a distressed state after getting wire stuck around its neck by Seacombe Ferry Terminal.

Merseyside Fire Service was called by staff at Seacombe Ferry Terminal after they spotted the goose around 1pm.

Team Leader Andrew Fell of the fire service's Marine Rescue Team said: “There was quite a large crowd of people on the sea wall watching the distressed goose.

"It seemed to have got something stuck in its throat so we went closer with the boat and two crew members rescued the goose from the water.”

The goose is now in the care of the RSPCA.
