Ferries operating sightseeing sailings during Cammell Laird-built HMS Liverpool's visit to the Mersey

MERSEY Ferries are holding special sightseeing sailings during Cammell Laird-built HMS Liverpool's final visit to the Mersey this weekend.

The sailings will take place on Saturday and Sunday (February 26 and 27), with the ferries altering their normal course to take in HMS Liverpool at the Liverpool Cruise Liner Terminal.

The special sailings will take place between 11am and 3pm and Blue Badge Guides will be onboard to offer commentary and information.

The ship’s company will welcome members of the public on board between noon – 4pm on both days and this Friday, the Commanding Officer, Commander Colin Williams, will lead his crew through the streets of Liverpool for a march exercising their Freedom of the City.

Commander Williams said: "I am very proud to be bringing HMS Liverpool to her spiritual home on the Mersey.

"There is great anticipation among the crew for this visit and I know that everyone is really looking forward not only to welcoming visitors on board, but also enjoying the warm hospitality which we always receive. "

HMS Liverpool is the tenth of the class of Type 42 Destroyers and the seventh ship to bear the name.
