Grace Sheppard in her favourite picture, with husband David
GRACE Sheppard, the much-loved widow of former Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend Lord David Sheppard, has died.
Tributes were today led by current Bishop of Liverpool James Jones.
Grace passed away in St John’s Hospice, Wirral with family and close friends around her last night.
The 75-year-old was being treated for breast cancer that had spread to her lungs, bones, and liver.
Daughter Jenny Sinclair wrote in a message to friends: "I’m very sorry to tell you that Grace died this evening at 6pm, peacefully, at St John's Hospice, Wirral, with family and close friends around her.
"I am so grateful to some of Grace's close friends who have been with me through today. I know this may come as a shock, as she has been so full of beans until recently.
"In hindsight, given the extent and virulence of the disease, it's remarkable she lasted this long. She was a person with an exceptionally powerful life force and a desire to make the most of every moment, even when she was extremely ill."
She said that those who had talked to Grace over the past few days were in no doubt about her deep sense of peace and certainty about where she was going.
"Indeed she seemed to be almost there, saying 'I'm hovering between two worlds.'"
