Public meeting on future of Byrne Avenue baths

A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the future of a much-loved swimming baths in Birkenhead is to be held this week.

Byrne Avenue Community Trust (BACT) has been negotiating with the local authority since last year, preparing documentation on their plans to re-open the Byrne Avenue baths.

In February 2009 the popular swimming baths – due to celebrate its 75th anniversary – suddenly shut after going into compulsory liquidation.

Wirral Council is considering a number of options for the future of the baths. These include selling it for social housing, sale of the building on the open market, demolishing the building and selling the land, or a community asset transfer to BACT.

The public meeting is to be held at the St Anne’s Club, 30 Highfield Road, Rock Ferry starting at 7.30pm on Thursday September 30. All welcome.
