THE Lady Lever Art Gallery is calling on artists across Wirral to create a winning piece of work inspired by its collection.
A panel of curators, educators and artists will judge entries in the Inspired by... competition, being run by the Port Sunlight gallery as part of a national scheme in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The Lady Lever’s Sarah Penketh said: “There is much to take inspiration from but highlights include the Pre Raphaelite collection, one of the world’s finest Wedgewood Jasperware collections and a wide ranging sculpture collection, the classic beauty of which is sure to inspire creativity.”
The competition is aimed at adults studying arts and crafts part-time, but is also open to community arts groups.
Three individual prizes and a group entry prize are up for grabs, and the winning pieces will be put on display.
The Lady Lever is also running a programme of events throughout summer.
On September 26 at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, a Sunlight Soap factory worker will be on hand to deliver a tour of the gallery.
Today and tomorrow, at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm a print workshop will be up and running, offering the opportunity to experiment with relief prints and monoprints.
The gallery is also inviting visitors to come down and experience its new Activity Rooms.
The four rooms have four themes; Sustain, Explore, Imagine and Create with people of all ages encouraged to come down and get involved.
Explore and Imagine feature some of Lord Leverhulme’s earliest commissioned promotional paintings, alongside many of the Chinese, African and Asian items picked up on his travels.
The closing date for the Inspired by... competition is September 1, call 0151 478 4136 for more information
