Wirral Waters : How it started and what it means

THE planning application considered last night by Wirral Council relates to East Float Dock, the heart of the area Peel Holdings hopes to redevelop.

The process began in 2006 and is only possible because Peel acquired the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board to go with another major purchase, the Manchester Ship Canal Company.

The combination makes the firm the most powerful broker of waterside real estate in the North West.

East Float Dock has been divided into four distinct areas; Sky City, Marina View, Northbank West and Vittoria Studios, with a different architect providing plans for each section.

If successful, the 30-year vision will be realised from 2012 and provide 13,500 homes, as well as commercial, leisure and cultural space to rival anywhere in the UK.
