TV STAR Paul O’Grady could not resist making a string of gags when he picked up an honorary degree.
The Birkenhead-born presenter, who shot to fame as Lily Savage, was made a Doctor of Arts at Leicester’s De Montfort University.
The honour was given in recognition of the 55-year-old’s “outstanding contribution to television, radio and the stage”.
Paul said he was “absolutely chuffed to bits” to be honoured at the ceremony in front of students.
He said: “The last time I walked across the De Montfort Hall stage in Leicester it was as Lily Savage in front of an audience of ne’er-do-wells.”
