A FORMER senior scientific officer with British Nuclear Fuels died as a result of contact with materials in his workplace, an inquest heard.
James Pemberton, 77, was admitted to Arrowe Park Hospital on May 13 with increasing shortness of breath and died three days later after his condition deteriorated.
In 2008, he was diagnosed as suffering from mesothelioma, and in September 2009 a compensation claim in relation to this was settled with his former employers.
Mr Pemberton was born in Birkenhead in 1933, and lived with his wife on Bridle Road in Bromborough.
Recording his verdict, coroner Christopher Johnson said: “The deceased died from an industrial disease encountered due to the nature of his former employment.”
