WIRRAL Autistic Society’s new respite centre has welcomed its first clients after a successful £1.3m fundraising appeal.
Key supporters of the appeal were invited to a special viewing of The Ferns alongside the society’s main residential building at Raby Hall.
Society chairman John Battersby received the keys from builders Mellwood and Wirral Mayor Cllr Alan Jennings planted a tree.
The appeal to fund the building, which has six bedroom suites plus support facilities, was launched two years ago as part of the society’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The society caters for people aged 16 and over suffering from autism. But it only had one respite bed, which was in constant demand from families all over the North West and beyond.
