Beach party to help coastal environment

ENJOY surf, sea and sand at the Count Me In! Beach Party on July 11.

The event, which takes place at Wirral Country Park Visitor Centre, Thurstaton, is loking for volunteers to record findings such as crabs, shells, seaweed and whales.

Thurstaston beach is part of the Wirral Coastline and runs between Thurstaston and Heswall along the foot of Thurstaston cliffs.

The cliffs themselves provide a fascinating backdrop, being eroded into almost surreal shapes and gravity defying peaks.

They are also hazardous in their state of erosion, and should never be walked upon on the edges, or climbed, as parts are susceptible to crumbling away at any moment.

This coastal strip itself is very popular with walkers and forms part of the superb Wirral Coastal Walk.

Karen Lawson, Project Coordinator, says: “This event is informative, interactive and is open to anyone who is interested.

“Count Me In! aims to create wildlife recorders of the future. We hope people come down and find out what it’s all about.”
