AN inquest opened last week into the death of a cyclist hit by a car in Wallasey.
Matthew Robert Chapman, of Norwich Drive, Upton, died on Sunday, April 11 after a Vauxhall Vectra struck the rear of his bike on North Wallasey Approach Road, Wallasey.
Coroner’s officer Donald Johnston said the 28-year-old suffered serious head injuries after being knocked off his bike in the collision just after 4pm.
He said: “The deceased had been riding his GT Avalanche pedal cycle along the North Wallasey Approach Road from the general direction of the M53 towards New Brighton.
“As he was in the act of crossing the mouth of the slip road which leads down to the west-bound carriageway of Leasowe Road he was struck at the rear by the car.
“He was rapidly moved to A&E at Arrowe Park Hospital.
“A scan showed he had suffered injuries which were deemed to be unsurvivable.
