A GOOD Samaritan came to the aid of an Upton woman after reading about her stolen mobility scooter in Wirral News.
Kind-hearted PC Gina Kirkham was moved by the story of Christine Carr, who told of her distress at losing her freedom following the theft from her back garden in February.
Last week she presented Mrs Carr, 62, with a top-of-the-range scooter which belonged to her late father Tony Dawson, a pianist from Hoylake.
In a letter to the paper last month Mrs Carr said: “It was my independence. My scooter insurance will not pay out as it was not chained and padlocked to an immovable object so please check if you own a mobility scooter and lock it securely in case these despicable thugs decide to do it again to someone else.”
PC Kirkham, who is based at Wallasey Police Station, said: "My dad passed away from cancer just before Christmas and prior to getting ill he had bought himself a state-of-the-art mobility scooter. He used to love his cars so he got himself this top of the range scooter to help him get about.
“I was really moved by the letter Chris wrote warning others to be on their guard against the theft of mobility scooters after her own was stolen from her back garden.
“I have worked for the police for 17 years and it is so awful when the victim of a theft not only loses their belongings but their freedom and their feeling of safety in their own home. So after speaking to my brother and sister we decided we would give dad's scooter to her.”
