Birkenhead warehouse up in flames for second time in a week

A HUGE blaze swept through a Birkenhead warehouse on Saturday for the second time in a week.

Firefighters were called to the derelict building on New Chester Road in Birkenhead, near to Cammell Laird, as smoke poured into the air.

The first inferno, which was tackled by 70 firefighters at its height, was believed to have started in a John S Braid- owned warehouse on Monday night.

John S Braid is an international logistics and freight company.

Merseyside Fire Service was called to the same location at 2.50pm on Saturday following reports of another fire.

A spokeswoman said: “We went back out there and had four appliances in attendance at the derelict building.

“It was caused by oil from an electrical transformer which caught fire.”
