HIGH rise buildings in Wirral will be visited by firefighters as part of a new project to protect residents from fire.
Former local authority buildings that are six storeys or more will be visited over the next three months for fire safety checks.
Crews will check that fire safety measures are in place, including fire doors, protected stairs and lobbies, and self closers on doors. They will also fit free smoke alarms.
The project was initiated after major fires in high rise buildings in other parts of the country, including Camberwell, South London where six people died after a fire in a 12-storey apartment building last year.
Watch Manager Craig Whitfield said: “Every single watch will do at least one visit .”
