Wirral residents can scrap their old boilers for a new one under rebate scheme

WIRRAL Council is urging residents to take advantage of the boiler scrappage scheme to upgrade their central heating systems.

The government-backed programme is similar to the popular car scrappage scheme in that it offers a £400 rebate when old inefficient ‘G’ rated boilers are replaced with new energy-efficient models.

Councillor George Davies, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said: “Anyone with a qualifying boiler can apply, with vouchers allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.Š

“However, we are conscious that for people to benefit from this scheme they still have to find the upfront costs, which can still exclude many.Š Fortunately, in Wirral we can help people to spread these costs through the council’s Cosy Loan scheme.”

The scheme offers interest free loans of between £200 and £2,000 to support the installation of a range of household energy efficiency improvements.

Loans are available to all Wirral residents with a good credit rating and repayments can be spread over periods of up to three years.
