Businessmen in bid to take over Wirral's Byrne Avenue Baths

A CONSORTIUM of local businessmen is bidding to re-open Byrne Avenue Baths.

Families across Wirral were left disappointed when the Rock Ferry swimming baths closed suddenly a year ago, just a week before the start of half term.

The Trust which ran the baths said there were “insufficient funds” available to keep it running and it had no choice but to go into compulsory liquidation.

The group of businessmen plan to submit a bid to Wirral Council, which owns the lease of the building.

They believe it can become a successful non-profit making business and a base for community activities, creating 17 jobs.

Local businessman Mike Lloyd said the Byrne Avenue Community Trust has spent the past four months putting together the bid which is expected to be submitted this week.
