WIRRAL women are being urged to put their best foot forward and sign up for the Race for Life.
In 2008 5,000 females took part in the Cancer Research UK-organised 5k run around Birkenhead Park.
The 2010 Race for Life and Race 10k take place in the park on Sunday, July 4 and organisers hope another 5,000 will take part this year in the 5k fun race – raising £186,000 – and want to sign up 1,000 for the Race 10k, raising £40,000 for the charity.
Women are welcome to take part as individuals or in groups and everyone who joins in can walk, jog or run to complete the race.
Helen Wright, Cancer Research UK’s North West events manager, said: “Women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes take part in Race for Life.
“They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k course.
“Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun, but they all share the wonderful atmosphere at the event.”
Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event.
Wirral runners will be part of a team of 700,000 women taking part in Cancer Research Race for Life events across the country between May and July.
Cancer Research hopes that together they will raise £60m to fund its work.
