Merseyside Police appeal over stolen jewellery found in Birkenhead

POLICE are appealing for the original owners to come forward after a quantity of suspected stolen jewellery was recovered in Birkenhead.

A 33-year-old man was stopped by officers in the Birkenhead area on December 30 last year, and found to be in possession of a number of suspicious items.

A warrant was executed and the subsequent search of the man’s address led police to the jewellery.

Investigators are now hoping that members of the public will come forward to claim their property, and possibly provide further evidence of the man’s activities.

Merseyside Police constable Sam McAteer said: “We are still investigating to establish if the property is stolen, but we need the public’s help in order to do this.

“We are asking people who have been victims of burglary to contact us if they recognise any of it as belonging to them.

"Some of the jewellery is quite distinctive and includes rings, bracelets and necklaces, which may at some time have been a treasured possession for someone.

“It would be good to see them re-united with their owners.”

In order to claim the items, proof of purchase, or the ability to describe an individual or distinctive feature of the jewellery, will be necessary.

A 33-year-old Birkenhead man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and is currently on police bail, pending further inquiries.

If you recognise any of the jewellery, contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2269
