BERNIE Singleton was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in April – but instead of feeling down, she’s put all her energies into raising a massive £13,000 for charity.
The mother-of-three only decided to embark on her fundraising odyssey in July.
But she has absolutely no doubt the effort has helped her own recovery, as well as pouring much needed cash into cancer research coffers.
Bernie, from New Brighton, told the News: “It has 100% helped.
“You forget about illness when you’re doing things like this.
“Obviously, I‘ve got pain in my arm and I’m standing outside supermarkets with heavy collecting tins, but even that gives me such a thrill because I know I’m doing something positive.
“I work harder now than I did when I was at work and I’m loving every minute of it.”
The 59-year-old has been bag packing, raising as much as £700 a go, as well as standing at supermarket doors with tin in hand, taking an impressive £1,127 in one session at ASDA in Liscard.
Bernie said: “My husband says I do have a talent for getting people to give me money, but he does it too.
