Angler’s rescue mission for fish stranded in drained Marine Lake in New Brighton

ANGLER Peter James spent Christmas Eve and Boxing Day fishing flounders and eels out of New Brighton’s Marine Lake.

But he wasn’t using a rod and line.

Peter was there, with several friends, to help fish caught when the lake was drained by contractors working on the new Neptune development.

The North West Association of Sea Anglers member helped around 40 fish escape the diminishing water level, by piling them into buckets and returning them to the Mersey.

Peter said: “I know it is not a great number of fish this time, but I can assure everyone that every inch of the lake was searched.

“Every one of the fish we caught swam away to live on, and will produce thousands of fish from their offspring.”
