Recycling plan to make the most of Wirral worms

SCHOOLS in Wirral will be able to cut down on waste – using worms.
Around £5,000 has been allocated as part of a £20,000 recycling drive for the use of wormeries to make high-quality compost out of organic waste.
Vermicomposting, which takes place in special bins, works because, in good conditions, worms can eat their own weight in organic matter in a day, and their excretions are excellent fertiliser.
The money for the project came from Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and its contractor Veolia Environmental Services, part of a pot which was applied for by Live Wirral wardens.
